Tips To Keep Your Feet Healthy As A Runner

If you're a runner, then you know your feet need to be well taken care of. If you have sore feet or any type of issue with your feet, then this is going to hinder your performance. Not a good thing when you're trying to run a race, or if you're attempting to train for a race. Either way, you need to keep your feet healthy. Read on for tips to help keep your feet in good shape.

Wear The Right Footwear

You may have been fitted for shoes before that help with your running performance, but if you're still wearing those same shoes months or years later, they may not be in great shape any longer. Those shoes have hit the pavement, treadmill, or gravel quite a bit over that time period and may not be as supportive as they should. Invest in a new pair of running shoes yearly, or more often if you run often.

Wear Breathable Socks

Protect your feet from moisture that can cause bacterial issues such as athlete's foot or infections by wearing breathable socks. These types of socks can wick sweat away from the feet and help keep them dry while running. You can find breathable socks at most athletic sportswear stores.

Give Your Feet A Rest

If you're beginning to feel pain in your feet, remember to give your feet a break every now and then. Don't make the pain worse or cause further issues with your feet. Take a day or two off to rest your feet and be sure to visit the podiatrist for a diagnosis and for treatment options.

Watch For Sores

Keep an eye on your feet for sores or blisters on your toes, heels, back of the feet or the sides of the feet. Soak your feet in Epsom salts if you have any of these on your feet to help heal your feet and to ease the pain. These sores can hinder your performance and keep you from running for days if they do not heal, so take some time to give your feet a break. Cover these sores to prevent rubbing and prevent them from worsening.
